After reviewing ring programs at several universities, FHU's alumni and marketing offices have worked with alumnus Charlie Smith at MTM Recognition to create Freed-Hardeman's first official class ring. The first ring was presented to FHU President Dr. Milton Sewell February 13, 2007, by former FHU Alumni Director Dawn Bramblett. Creators chose an unusual rectangular shape to be easily recognizable by FHU alumni and friends. The bezel features a simple, classic design, depicting the bell tower of Old Main Administration Building. For almost one hundred years, the bell tower has been a symbol of the university. The tolling of the bell plays a prominent role in ceremonies at fall convocation and at graduation. Lighted at night, the bell tower welcomes students to campus and calls alumni home. Alumni who have celebrated at least 50 years since their days as a student at Freed-Hardeman receive a coordinating pin at the university's Golden Year Reunion celebration in June. |
